1. I started a new job in mid-October. I am still working for Goodwill of North GA fulfilling their mission of putting people to work. I was honored and blessed to receive a big promotion and am now a Regional Manager (aka. the Michael Scott of Goodwill). I oversee two employment programs in two different locations. I manage the staff that works with them, trains them, puts them to work, and supports them on the job. There are definitely some new challenges, but so far, I love the job!
2. We're, God-willing, closing on a house next week! I know I said all this blah, blah, blah stuff about not buying a house. What it comes down to for us is that our mortgage for our 4br house will be significantly less/month than our rent for a 2br apartment. Plus, we're moving much closer to the international and refugee community and we're really excited to get involved there! The location is perfect for my new job as well.
I know, isn't it full of great character? The whole neighborhood is like this!
3. Our adoption has us in a LONG season of waiting. We were originally told that it would take 6-9 months for a child to be assigned to us. It's been 6 months, an it may be another year and a half (or more) before we have our child in our arms. We know that adoption is a roller coaster. We've been asked if we'll just switch countries or have another biological child instead, but it just doesn't work that way. Adoption is not our back up plan. Our child waiting for us cannot just be replaced by a biological child. Nor are we willing to abandon a child or country because it's not going as planned or on our timeline. There may come a time when the country we are adopting from shuts its doors completely, and if that is the case, we will consider other options. But for now, we will continue to pray for our child and ache for him or her on a daily basis. God is good and we trust Him.
